The Scandalous Life Of Gloria Grahame

This festive time of the year we usually gather to watch Holiday Classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life the 1946 classic Holiday film and one of the stars of this classic is actress Gloria Grahame. I’m sure few really know how Scandalous her life really was before her death from breast and abdominal cancer in 1981. 
Born Gloria Grahame Hallward on November 28, 1923 in Los Angeles CA she made her first film for MGM in 1944. Her contract was sold to RKO Studios in 1947 and was primarily cast in Film Noir. She also made movies for Columbia Pictures. 

Personal Life

Grahame today is more well known for her chaotic personal life. Married 4 times and having 4 children. 
Her first husband was actor Stanley Clements in August 1945. They Divorced in June 1948. The very next day her divorce became final she married Nicholas Ray. In November of 1948 they had a son Timothy in November 1948. Ray and Grahame had a tumultuous marriage they separated and reconciled a couple times but in 1950 Nicholas caught Gloria in bed with his son Anthony (Tony) Ray when Tony was only 13. Tony was his son to his first wife and Gloria’s Stepson. Nicholas and Gloria Divorced In 1952. 
Gloria’s third trip down the isle was with  writer/producer Cy Howard. They married in August 1954 and had a Daughter Marianna. They Divorced in November 1957. 
Grahame’s 4th and Final Marriage was to Anthony (Tony) Ray yes, her former lover/stepson. They reconnected in 1958 and they married in Mexico in May 1960. It was her longest marriage and they had 2 children together Anthony Jr. born 1963 and James born 1965. She and Tony Divorced in 1974. When Gloria’s 3rd husband heard of her marriage to her former stepson he attempted to get full custody of their daughter claiming she was unfit the battle went on for years and Gloria had a Nervous Breakdown. Now to try to break this all down for you Gloria’s oldest son Timothy is the half brother to  both Tony Ray and Tony’s children to Gloria. Their grandfather is their mother’s x-
husband. 
Tony and Gloria Divorced in May of 1974. That same year she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She received radiation therapy but In 1981 her cancer returned in her abdomen but she kept working. She contacted her former lover Peter Turner she wanted to die in Liverpool England but Turner called her two oldest children Timothy and Marianna they brought her back to the US. Against her wishes the cancer was in her abdomen, the size of a football. She died in New York City 5 days later and was buried in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery In Chatsworth CA. 
Anthony (Tony) Ray Died in July of 2018 at 80 Years of Age. 

The community room in the Manhattan Plaza Apartment Complex in NYC Is dedicated to Gloria and her Picture hangs there. She kept an Apartment there for years. 
Legacy 
Gloria has a Star on The Hollywood Walk Of Fame at 6522 Hollywood Blvd.

Peggy Hopkins Joyce (born Marguerite Upton; May 26, 1893 – June 12, 1957) was an American actress, artist's model and dancer. In addition to her performing career, Joyce was known for her flamboyant life, with numerous engagements, six marriages to wealthy men, subsequent divorces, a series of scandalous affairs, a collection of diamonds and furs, and a generally lavish lifestyle. Early Life Born Marguerite Upton in 1893 in Berkley, Virginia (now part of Norfolk), she was known as Peggy. Upton left home at the age of 15 with a vaudeville bicyclist. A simple story really right? We’ve all heard about it, it was quite the scandal of 1921. Boy decided to celebrate a big movie contract rents 3 rooms at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. Boy meets swarmy Madam then Boy meets Girl, Boy helps Girl who is sick on the toilet and she dies 4 days later...Boy is Arrested for Murder.  Simple Right?  The Beginning Labor Day Weekend September 1921 Roscoe Arbuckle was celebrating Adolph Zucker signing him to a 3 year 1 Million a year contract.
